    How to deteremine if neighboring wireless APs are open or secure?

    How do I determine if neighboring WiFi APs are open or secure before attempting a connection using the OpenNETCF SDF?  I want to only connect to open networks.  I don't want to go through the time delay of trying each network until I find an open connection.  Isn't the router authentication transmitted?
