When will a build of SDF 2.x bound to the new CF 3.5 assemblies be available? Alternatively, when will there be a release for VS2008 and will it be just a rebuild of 2.x or a true upgrade with new features?

Time permitting, we're hoping to have SDF vNext out by the end of the year or early '08. I say time permitting as our consulting schedule is very full right now.

The next version will be supported in both VS 2005 and VS 2008. For VS 2008 users, we're going to be adding some new tools specifically for the VS 2008 IDE. As for the framework, there will be new features, so it is not just a straight recompile.

It would be very nice to have it soon, as we moved to VS2008 and NETCF 3.5 by now.

So will the current SDF 2.1 work with .NETCF 3.5 apps where .NETCF 2.0 is not installed?

Yes, .NET CF 3.5 is backwards compatible. The only caveat is that SDF 2.1 Extensions for Visual Studio will not integrate with VS 2008.
