&lt;p&gt;WindowWatcher m_watcher = new WindowWatcher();&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;this should be:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;m_watcher = new WindowWatcher();&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Else it will create a local variable and the call to button2_Click() will not find m_watcher.Enabled will trying to set it to true.&lt;/p&gt;
